Cranberry Margaritas

Makes six cocktails

For a sugar rim
Extra fine sugar or Cranberry Cocktail Sugar (available at your local liquor store)

For the margarita
1 1/2 cups fresh cranberries (thawed frozen cranberries may be substituted)
3/4 cup tequila (100% agave is best)
3/4 cup unsweetened cranberry juice (not cranberry juice cocktail)
3/4 cup fresh lime juice (about 3 juicy limes)
1/2 cup orange liqueur (such as Cointreau)
1/3 cup agave nectar
1 1/4 cups chilled club soda
1/4 cup fresh orange juice

Garnishes: whole cranberries, lime zest strips

Run a lime wedge around the glasses and dip rims in sugar to coat.  Fill glasses with ice for serving on the rocks or alternately you can serve this “up” in martini glasses.  Either way dip the rims of the glasses in the sugar.

Process cranberries, tequila, cranberry juice, lime juice, orange liqueur, and  agave nectar in a blender 30 seconds. Pour mixture through a fine wire-mesh strainer into a large pitcher and press the liquid from the pulp.

Stir in chilled club soda and orange juice.

Pour into prepared glasses.

Garnish as desired with whole cranberries and/or lime zest strips
